Job Description

The Duty Medical Officer (DMO) is responsible for providing continuous medical care to patients admitted in the hospital during night hours. The DMO ensures emergency response, patient monitoring, documentation, and coordination with clinical teams to deliver quality care during non-regular hours.


  • Attend to emergency and critical patients in the ER, wards, or ICU during night hours.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments, take history, perform examinations, and initiate appropriate treatment.
  • Manage trauma, cardiac arrest, and other acute emergencies promptly.
  • Liaise with consultants or escalate critical cases as needed.
  • Perform regular night rounds of inpatients and critically ill patients.
  • Monitor patient vitals, progress notes, and ensure timely medication and treatment.
  • Identify any deterioration in patient condition and respond immediately.
  • Supervise nursing and paramedical staff during the night shift.
  • Ensure proper communication and handover to the morning medical team.
  • Maintain coordination with laboratory, radiology, and support services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient records, progress notes, and treatment charts.
  • Complete medico-legal documentation (if required).
  • Prepare and submit night duty reports to the management or senior physicians.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, infection control policies, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Participate in night audits and quality checks, if required.

Required Skills

  • MBBS / BAMS / BHMS and Pharm D (Registered with relevant Medical Council)
  • ICU experience MUST
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills
  • Sound decision-making and emergency response
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle high-pressure situations
  • Full-time / Rotational Nights.
